Australian electoral searches cannot be used for debt collection

In Australia, you can only search the electoral role to check your own personal enrolment details or make an objection to the enrolment of another elector. 

An extract from the Electoral role website is below (the link to the website is here);

An electronic copy of the current electoral roll is available for public inspection at any AEC office. You may only inspect the publicly available electoral roll for the purposes of:

  • Checking your own enrolment details, or
  • Making an objection to the enrolment of another elector.
Commercial use of the Electoral Roll incurs a fine of $110,000.
