The Sydney Morning Herald reported that bikies are now allegedly
collecting debts in Victoria. The newspaper says police intelligence has
recorded links between Visy and the notorious bikie gang, and found
that other bikie gangs and underworld figures are acting as collectors.
It is alleged the bikies moved into the industry after the Victorian
government last year scrapped the licensing of collectors. Visy
dismissed the bikie allegations as “nonsense”.
The Victorian Government rolled out a negative licensing regime last year, whereby collectors no longer required licenses.
In NSW, all Collection Agents and Agencies are required to
be licensed under the CAPI ACT, requiring photographic ID and Police
