University College of Dublin has turned to a debt collection agency to collect outstanding student fees.
The University has a good collection tool in place such that it will not award a degree to someone who has not paid outstanding fees. Statistically this policy works well, with only 228 out of 38,000 students completing their degree but not being awarded their degree.
However as the cost of higher education runs into the tens of thousands of dollars, the amount owing to the University could well exceed $400,000 AUD just on the 228 students.
Other universities in Ireland are experiencing similar issues with outstanding student fees.
