We had previously reported Unicredit (now no longer in existence) had
used fake illegal courtrooms as a collection tactic / tool to obtain
payments from debtors. The lawsuit brought by the Attorney General had
prompted the judge to close Unicredit down.
The president of the company (Covatto) has been ordered to pay
the US $500k in civil penalties and legal fees under a judgment entered
against him for his implicit role in running the fake courtroom.
It is unknown if Covatto has any funds to pay the Judgment. He filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
