As previously reported, back in March 2011 an Indonesian man died in the
Citi Bank office whilst being questioned by three debt collectors
working for a Collection agency used by Citi Bank. Following the death
there were differing views about the cause of death, with medical
professionals disagreeing whether or not hypertension played a role.
Post-mortem reports gave the cause of death as asphyxiation, brain
The Jakarta High Court found that two of the collectors had
"deprived the liberty on purpose and against the law that resulted in
someone's death" and sentenced them to five years in prison each.
Both collectors have failed to respond to a court summons for detention and have been declared fugitives.
Since the death, Citi Bank has now employed all debt collectors
