The national tax revenue collection body in the UK - Her
Majesties Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has increased twofold the
commissions paid to collection agencies.
There has been a significant increase in pressure to collect
outstanding tax debts as a way if increasing funds available to the
government, and using debt collection companies has been seen as a very
cost effective way of achieving this. After a pilot program in 2009, the
use of debt collection companies was extended in 2012.
HMRC estimates that the debt collection companies brought in an
extra $106 million (in addition to what they would have collected) in
