Private Debt Collection agency use increased by British Government

Thursday, March 07, 2013 - Posted by Philip Harvey

The national tax revenue collection body in the UK - Her Majesties Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has increased twofold the commissions paid to collection agencies.

There has been a significant increase in pressure to collect outstanding tax debts as a way if increasing funds available to the government, and using debt collection companies has been seen as a very cost effective way of achieving this. After a pilot program in 2009, the use of debt collection companies was extended in 2012.

HMRC estimates that the debt collection companies brought in an extra $106 million (in addition to what they would have collected) in 2012.
